Scaffolding

(2022)

:

Scaffolding is a collection of grid inspired by systems, objects, and frameworks in physical and natural environments. This limited edition of 22 artist books was completed in spring 2022. The visual narrative has two contrasting voices—soft in daylight and another under a blue light with glowing colors.

Text by Tricia Treacy and Jessica D. Brier quote excerpted from “The Grid Goes Public: Printed Matter in Expanded Field,” in On the Grid: Ways of Seeing in Print (Poughkeepsie, NY: The Frances Lehman Loeb Art Center, Vassar College, 2022).

Risograph printing was done in two locations (New Hampshire, USA + the Netherlands) mostly with flourscent inks. Part of the book was printed during a workweek in collaboration with Paul John at the Jan van Eyck Academie in Maastricht, Netherlands, on A3 and A2 Risograph machines in March 2022. Lasercut woodblocks and polymer plates were printed on a Vandercook in Tricia’s New Hampshire studio.

The binding was designed and executed by John DeMerritt Bookbinding in an edition of 22. The grid book cloth was made from Irish linen printed fabric. The covers and enclosure are foil stamped in silver.

Exhibited at Galerie Druck & Buch in Vienna (January through February 2023), Center for Book Arts in NYC (January through March 2023), and The Singapore Art Book Fair in Singapore (April 2023)
