The Phonografik Collectivo

a collaboration with Ashley John Pigford
(2016)
:

Phonografik Collectivo was a collaborative project conceived and curated by Ashley John Pigford, Roman Wilhelm (Berlin) and myself. Through this project, we initiated an exchange of original, experimental typographic/hand-lettered/calligraphic artworks as contemporary translated as common sounds that unite many of the world’s phonographic languages, represented by the Phoenician alphabet. Artists and designers included were from the following countries, Belgium, China, Germany, Israel, Italy, Kuwait, Uk and US. We were most interested in the relationship between sound and typography and how others can amplify that through new translations, pushing the typography into art and visa-versa. This was a collaborative exchange — but not necessarily in the multiple, but rather an assortment of explorations. The catalog highlights work exhibited from the project.
